Origins

From the sun-drenched lowland plains at the foothills of the Western Ghats, where the earth receives the warmth of the open sky for most of the day, our sesame seeds grow organically, without chemicals fertilizers or toxic pesticides. And unlike the mist-covered terrain of the mountains, these plains offer a bright and warm landscape that is very much reflected in the raw, earthy character of the sesame itself.

After three to four months of cultivation, the harvested black sesame seeds are collected in their natural, unpolished state by our sangha, and rather than rushing them through mechanical dryers, we allow the seeds to naturally dry in our solar shed for an entire week. We adhere strictly to the traditional methods of processing the sesame seeds — unlike the commercial mills that often use dehydration machines to remove moisture within hours, so that it allows the extraction process to begin the very same day. While this shortens the overall process considerably, yet excessive heat at this stage exposes the seeds to unnecessary thermal stress, before they are extracted for the oil.

Instead, we chose நிதானம் (Nidhanam) — The virtue of a slow, patient process of our traditional bull-driven method, taking place at our sangha farms.

Once naturally dried, the sesame seeds are taken to our 25 kg traditional stone mill, where the vaigai wood, powered by our humanely raised Kangeyam bulls, gently crush the seeds at an exceptionally slow rate of just 2 RPM — two rotations per minute (moving just twice the circumference of the stone mill, per minute). For nearly two hours, the seeds are gradually churned between the stone and the vaigai wood. This deliberately unhurried movement helps minimise friction and excessive heat, allowing the natural character and delicate aroma of the sesame to remain within the oil.

The outcome of our bull driven traditional process is a rich, earthy, stone-pressed sesame oil — extracted not through speed, but through patience, and in the time-honored way of our ancestors with care, so that what reaches your home remains as close as possible to the sesame — in its pure natural form.

How To Use Them

For Newborn Infants

Take a small amount of sesame oil and warm it gently between your palms. The oil should feel comfortably warm, never hot.

Using very light pressure, massage slowly over the baby's body with smooth, gentle strokes. Avoid the eyes, nose, mouth and any broken or irritated skin. Do not massage over an unhealed umbilical cord stump.

A short massage of around 10–20 minutes may be incorporated into a consistent routine, often before bathing.

For newborns, the technique matters as much as the oil — keep every movement gentle and never apply excessive pressure.

For Adults

Take the desired amount of sesame oil and apply directly to the hair, scalp or body according to your preferred traditional oiling or massage routine.

For use with essential oils, add the recommended number of drops according to the dilution guidance provided for that particular essential oil, and mix thoroughly before application.

Note

Always perform a patch test before wider application.

Newborn massage should always be performed with a gentle touch. Avoid vigorous pressure or massage over irritated or broken skin. For premature, low-birth-weight or medically fragile babies, or when there is an existing skin concern, consult a paediatrician before beginning an oil-massage routine.

Testing Document

Every traditional bull-driven oil produced at our Sangha farm is tested at CSIR–National Food Technology Research Institute (CSIR-NFTRI), a government research institution, for checks including mineral oil (paraffin), added fragrance, and adulteration.

Because preserving an ancestral method should not mean leaving it unquestioned — our traditional process is supported by modern scientific verification.

From Our Hands

For us, the making of sesame oil is not simply an extraction process. It is a lived experience that begins with the seed.

The harvest is followed by a full week of natural solar drying. The dried sesame then enters the traditional stone mill, where the slow movement of vaigai wood, guided by our Kangeyam bulls, gradually releases the oil from the seed.

This is our இயற்கை (Iyarkai) essence — allowing nature to set the pace rather than forcing it through speed.

From the soil of the Western Ghats to the stone mill at our Sangha farm, every stage carries a piece of the tradition we seek to preserve.

And at the end of this journey comes our stone-pressed, bull-driven sesame oil — made with our hands, guided by an ancestral practice, and offered to you in its cleanest, most natural form.
