Origins

For our community, धासिङ्ग्रे (Wintergreen) is seen as a blessing, offered as a gift by our बान देवी — the Forest Deity, who presides over these ancient, mythical mountains of the Himalayas. It was here that the elders of our community - धामी झाकड़ी (The Spiritual Healers), first sensed the spirit of the forest in Wintergreen, and recognized a bridge between the human body and the invisible life of the forest. They believed that the leaves were not simply medicine in a clinical sense. It was a form of restoration offered by the forest deity, that one ought to receive with greater reverence.

Their leaves were crushed into paste, and worked on weary limbs and muscles, when the bone-chilling wintery winds brought joint ache and fatigue to the body; and on cold mornings they were also brewed into steaming tea to bring the warming fire of the earth back into our alpine bodies. And as the knowledge of our elders took a leap forward, the step toward distillation followed — in primitive iron-forged stills crafted by our community ancestors.

Even today, our community preserves that ancestral tradition and distills it using our age-old craft, from the Himalayan abode, amidst the sublime meadows and snow-capped peaks, deep in the alpine forest of the हिमालय (Himalay) — the same forest that blessed our ancestors both with a home and धासिङ्ग्रे (Wintergreen).

Signature Aroma

A crisp medicinal clarity — sharp, piercing, and instant — opens the nasal passages with a cooling sensation that spreads through the chest, before the mind has finished registering what it is. This does not merely stimulate the senses but clears them completely, the way a deep breath of glacial mountain air clears everything that preceded it.

Then the sweetness arrives. Deep, creamy, and warm — round, minty, and candy-like in a way that sits entirely at odds with the medicinal sharpness that came before it and yet settles there completely.

This is why धासिङ्ग्रे को थेल is found at high-altitude sanatoriums, wellness spas, traditional Ayurvedic centers and eastern healing practices — wherever it is the body, not merely the mood, that is what is being restored.

How To Use Them

Muscle & Joint Relief — Blend 3–4 drops with each tablespoon of carrier oil and massage firmly into sore muscles, stiff joints or aching limbs to ease pain, reduce inflammation, and restore warmth and circulation. Our community's oldest use of this plant.

Headache Relief — Blend 1–2 drops with a carrier oil or simply apply gently to the temples, forehead, arm-wrist, back of the ear, and neck to ease headache tension and bring a warm cooling relief.

Oral Care — Add 1 drop to a glass of warm water and use as a mouth rinse to freshen breath and soothe gum inflammation. Use sparingly — a single drop is sufficient.

Bath — Blend 4–5 drops with a carrier oil before adding to bath water or sauna steam for a deeply warming, restorative ritual that eases the body after physical labor or the long cold of the highland winter.

Forest Tea — Steep a small handful of fresh or dried wintergreen leaves in hot mountain spring water for 5–7 minutes. The oldest ritual of our community — the warming fire of the forest, drawn into a cup.

For DIY — Ideal for making muscle balms, pain relief oils, oral care products, soaps, roll-ons, bath salts, and other therapeutic value-added products.

Testing Document

Every batch of our wintergreen essential oil is sent to CSIR-CIMAP, Hyderabad, for Gas Chromatography testing.

Every plant compound is identified and measured. Every batch is confirmed for purity and found to be free of adulteration.

The complete GC report is published openly within the product catalogue — because an oil made honestly deserves to be verified the same way.

From Our Hands

You hold the धासिङ्ग्रे को थेल (Wintergreen essential oil) drawn from leaves gathered by our community members, moving through the wild Himalayan forest — and distilled by a community that has carried this wisdom since the time of their ancestors.

The harvest begins from January to the arrival of the monsoon. The leaves are gathered from the fringes of our sangha farm where the wintergreen grows close to the Nepal border slopes. Groups of women from our community venture into the communal forests together, each carrying a large डोको — a traditional woven bamboo basket, strapped to the forehead. As they move through the thick undergrowth, their sickles move in rhythm with chanted hymns and mountain lore. They sing to break the monotony of the steep climb, sometimes to ward off wild animals, and mostly to praise the bounty and send prayers to the बान देवी (Forest Deity) for protection and a good plentiful yield.

After the harvest, the leaves are packed into the iron still for a long overnight maceration in warm water, and during the pitch dark of the night, as the leaves steep, they begin converting plant compounds into pure methyl salicylate.

When the dawn breaks, the distillation resumes by carrying the steam through the copper pipes, chilled by the cold mountain water. And as the condensed vapour drips into the separator flask, a beautiful phenomenon occurs. The pure wintergreen oil — dense, heavy, and holding the rich yellow-gold blush of the highland forest — almost floats like a fleeting dream upon the water, and then slowly, deliberately, sinks to the absolute bottom. Our community watches in reverence as the oil pools at the base of the receiver — gifted, as it has always been, by the बान देवी (Forest Deity).

From 250 kilograms of wintergreen leaves, only 750 milliliters to a liter of pure essential oil are obtained.

The धासिङ्ग्रे थेल (Dhasingre Thel) is then carefully collected by our sangha and stored in aluminium cans in the cool, dry shade of our farm storage sheds — until it reaches you, pure and untouched.
