Origins

तुलसी (Thulasi) — the abode of all gods and deities.

Our sangha cultivates this sacred herb on the warm, fertile lowland plains at the Himalayan foothills, where the glacial rivers descend from the cold alpine heights and deposit across the riverbanks everything the mountain has gathered and carried — mineral-rich sediment, glacial water and accumulated fertility. This is the earth the Himalayas built at their own feet. And in it, our Thulasi grows with a richness that the cold altitude above could never produce.

Our community has known this plant not as a cultivated crop, but as a presence woven into the most ordinary and sacred moments of our daily life. On cold mornings, when the throat was sore and the nose blocked, the elders made काढ़ा — a warm infusion of dried Thulasi leaves with black pepper and ginger, simmered together and drunk slowly. The dried leaves, crushed into paste, were applied to skin allergies and insect bites. When elders from nearby hamlets paid a visit, fresh leaves from the courtyard plant were mixed into cold hand-pump water, and offered with both hands — a gesture that was hospitality and worship embedded in a drink. And when the plant completed its lifespan, the dried stems became जप मालाएं (prayer beads), some became firewood for sacred rituals, and others were crushed with sandalwood paste and anointed as tilak on the forehead — the plant honored until the last remaining part.

Distillation was the natural step forward — carrying what the plant has always offered into a form that could travel further beyond our fields. In our Thulasi oil, people found a daily companion to freshen their breath, soothe tired muscles, and bring a sense of absolute purity to the spaces where lamps are lit and prayers are offered.

Today, we grow it with the same reverence it has received in countless courtyards for generations. We offer our traditionally distilled तुलसी का तेल (Thulasi essential oil) to the people with the same goodwill as our ancestors — from the fertile plains, in the shadow of the mighty हिमालय (Himalay).

Signature Aroma

The first breath is sharp, crisp, and intensely alive — a piercing green freshness that enters the senses the way the smell of the Thulasi courtyard plant enters a home, when the morning wind moves through it. Clean, immediate, carrying a faint camphoreous coolness that clears the head before the deeper character of the oil has had time to fully arrive.

Then a warm, spicy, deeply herbaceous aroma appears — unmistakably the richness of freshly crushed basil: a clove-like sweetness at the centre, and beneath it the distinct anise undertone that belongs to true sweet basil character. This is the note that has made thulasi recognisable across every tradition in which it appears — the Italian restaurants where the aroma complements the smell of pizza and pasta. No single culture owns this fragrance. Every culture recognizes it.

And at the very end, long after the green and the spice notes have passed through, a soft balsamic warmth remains — quiet, woody, carrying a herbal sweetness that lingers like the memory of a morning prayer.

Thulasi does not choose between the sacred and the sensory. It has always been both. This is why it belongs in the puja room and the yoga studio, the wellness spa and the executive lounge — in any space where the intention is both clarity and devotion.

Testing Document

Every batch of our sweet basil essential oil is sent to CSIR-CIMAP, Hyderabad, for Gas Chromatography testing.

Every plant compound is identified and measured. Every batch is confirmed for purity and found to be free of adulteration.

The complete GC report is published openly within the product catalogue — because an oil made honestly deserves to be verified the same way.

From Our Hands

You hold the तुलसी का तेल (Thulasi Ka Thel) drawn from the same plant that grows in the courtyards of a billion homes — and distilled by a community that has carried its reverence since the time of their ancestors.

Seeds go into the warm fertile earth at the end of winter. Through the spring the thulasi grows — drawing glacial minerals from the river-fed soil and accumulating the warmth of the lowland sun. By June and July it stands ready. Our sangha harvests the crop together in the fields, cutting 30 centimetres above the ground, leaving the stem to recover for the second and final harvest before the cold months return.

After the harvested leaves and flowering tops have been dried overnight in the shade, they are carried to our 500 kg distillation unit, where dry wood is lit beneath the furnace and the still is heated for four to five hours. The hot steam moves through the thulasi biomass, drawing the oil from within the leaves, meeting the cold water in the cooling pipes, and condensing — drop by drop — into the receiver below.

From 500 kilograms of thulasi, 4 to 5 liters of oil are obtained.

The तुलसी का तेल (Thulasi Ka Thel) is then carefully collected by our sangha and stored in aluminium cans in the cool, dry shade of our farm storage sheds — until it reaches you, pure and untouched.

The same plant that has grown in every courtyard, beside every lamp, through every morning prayer. We simply carry its divine significance forward.
