The Eucalyptus tree, known as தைல மரம் (Thaila Maram) in our native Nilgiri hills, has grown in these forests for over a century — tall, silver-barked, covering the slopes of the Nilgiris in a lush grey-green canopy that looks blue over the distance, giving these mountains their name — நீலகிரி (Neelgiri) — the Blue Mountains.

Our community has lived alongside these trees for just as long — our ancestors were there when the first saplings were being planted by the British colonists. Our elders were among the first to look beyond the timber and firewood, and crushed the leaves to understand what they carried. The leaves were made into a paste and pressed against the chest during fever. They were also boiled in water and inhaled to clear cough and a runny nose.

Over time, this became நாட்டு வைத்தியம் (Folk healing) in their tribal hamlets, and slowly that knowledge was shared among the common folk, season after season, until it found its way into our traditional copper stills.

That copper still — built by our forefathers, rooted in their traditional tribal craft — is where Nilgiri Thailam is still made today, exactly as it was then.

Signature Aroma

On the first breath, it's clean and sharp — unmistakably eucalyptus — but beneath it is something softer: a sweet, woody depth that carries the smell of cold forest air and the whiff of fallen eucalyptus leaves on the ground.

That's why it feels calm and grounding, like taking you on a trip down the memory lane to these mountains, even if you have never been there.

How To Use Them

Headache ease : Inhale the drops, and apply it on the temples, forehead, pulse points of the wrists, behind the earlobes and along the neck to ease headache throbs. Its traditionally used best with a carrier oil and gently massaged onto the head to clear heaviness and ease the pain severity.

Steam inhalation : 5–6 drops in hot water. Breathe deeply under a towel for 5–10 minutes. The oldest natural application our community knows — and the most effective for the cold and a runny nose.

Chest and back rub : 4–5 drops in a carrier oil or aloe gel, applied and massaged in gently before the sleep.

Body and muscle : 5–6 drops in a carrier oil after work or physical exertion for relief.

Knees and joints : 5–6 drops with a carrier oil and massaged slowly into the knees, joints and the area of stiffness to bring comfort.

Steam diffusion : 6–8 drops or more, depending on the diffuser. Let the cold, clear air of the Nilgiri forest into your room.

DIY : Ideal for making soaps, shampoos, salves, deodorant, incense sticks and other value-added products.

GC Test Document

Every batch of our eucalyptus essential oil is sent to CSIR-CIMAP, Hyderabad for Gas Chromatography testing.

Every plant compound is identified and measured. Every batch is confirmed for purity and adulteration is confirmed to be absent.

The complete GC report is published openly within the product catalogue — because an oil made honestly, deserves to be verified the same way.

From Our Hands

You'll hold the Nilgiri Thailam that takes you back to the place where it was harvested and made.

Before dawn, when the Nilgiri hills are still wrapped in heavy cold mist, our community prepares for an hour-long walk into the forest — some climbing the eucalyptus trees with sharp sickles, while others gather below, filling gunny sacks in the mist and silence of the hills.

The load is carried back to our traditional tribal still, set up near the running stream in the forest. There, 500 to 650 kilograms of freshly harvested leaves enter the still — and after fire, water, and the long patience of the Nilgiri air — three liters of pure essential oil emerge.
